For any number of reasons, you may want to assign work to specific students in Google Classroom. Perhaps you are differentiating and assignment for students who need more support or need extensions. Perhaps you are assigning work to groups and have different tasks for each group.
Or perhaps you, like so many other educators during the COVID-19 pandemic, are assigning work to both in-person and remote learning students.
You can quickly choose from a list of students on any assignment posted in Google Classroom. When you choose individual students rather than all students, the assignment will only be seen by the chosen students.
Here’s how to take advantage of this feature in Google Classroom:
First, create a new Assignment in Google Classroom. Once the Assignment post is open, click on the “All Students” drop-down box on the far right side of the screen.
Click on the dropdown box. You will see a list of all students in the Classroom. To assign to specific students, click on the “All Students” checkbox at the top of the list. This will uncheck all students, allowing you to choose individuals.
Next, choose the students you would like to complete this assignment (or this version of an assignment that all other students are completing) and click the checkbox next to their name in the list.
Now, you’re ready to add other details to this assignment. Of course, you could begin by adding instructions and files to the assignment first and then choose students. Totally up to you.
Also, if you need to assign this work to most students in the class, simply uncheck the checkbox next to the student names you don’t want to receive this version.
This feature can save you time when reviewing and grading student work and can help your students be more successful as they are working.
I hope this helps you be more productive with your work in Google Classroom.
